Good morning. T minus 1. Had a chat with Claude this morning checking on the weather over the next 2 weeks along our route. Without all the words, Its gunna be HOT, Steamy and occasionally wet. Claude says expect the following...

There’s something pretty special about a southern US road trip in early June. The days are long, the BBQ smokers are running full-time, live music spills out onto the streets at night, and summer is just starting to properly settle in.

Our route takes us through some legendary cities:

  • Dallas

  • Oklahoma City

  • Kansas City

  • Memphis

  • Nashville

  • Knoxville

…and the weather looks like it’s going to be the full American summer experience.

Dallas — May 31

The trip kicks off in Dallas with proper Texas heat. Expect warm mornings, hot afternoons, and that classic southern energy where everything feels just a little bigger. Temperatures should climb into the low 30s, with a chance of dramatic afternoon thunderstorms rolling through.

This is cold-drink, rooftop-bar, air-conditioning-appreciation weather.

Oklahoma City — June 1

Oklahoma brings wide open skies and peak storm-season atmosphere. It’ll likely stay warm and breezy during the day, with the possibility of big thunderclouds building later in the afternoon.

Honestly, there’s something very “America road trip movie” about driving through Oklahoma with towering storm clouds in the distance.

Kansas City — June 3

Kansas City should feel a touch milder and more comfortable. Warm days, cooler mornings, and perfect conditions for wandering between BBQ joints and breweries.

There’s still a chance of summer storms here, but overall it looks like ideal exploring weather.

Memphis — June 6

By the time we hit Memphis, the southern humidity really kicks in. Expect hot days, warm nights, and that unmistakable Tennessee summer atmosphere.

This is the kind of weather made for:

  • slow-smoked BBQ,

  • cold beer,

  • blues music,

  • and staying out way later than planned.

Nashville — June 8

Nashville looks warm, lively, and probably a little sticky — exactly how Nashville should feel in June.

Think neon lights reflecting off wet streets after a quick thunderstorm, live music pouring out of every doorway, and packed rooftop bars buzzing well into the night.

Knoxville — June 10

Knoxville should bring slightly greener scenery and a softer mountain feel as the trip heads east. Warm days are still expected, but there’s a good chance of short afternoon rain showers rolling through the hills.

It feels like the perfect way to finish the journey.

The Best Part About This Time of Year

This feels like the sweet spot for a road trip:

  • before the extreme peak summer heat,

  • long daylight hours,

  • everything is green,

  • patios and beer gardens are packed,

  • and there’s always the chance of a dramatic summer thunderstorm to make the drive even more memorable.

Now all that’s left is the important stuff - finding the best BBQ in every city and deciding how much live music is too much live music.
